A story should be filled with all kinds of dramatic twists and turns.

Note: "Dramaturgy" has two different meanings. In the context of theatre, it's the act of researching both the text and context of a play. From what I've researched and understand, a dramaturg will do things like gathering historical context for both the setting of the play and of the time it was written, researching the authors beliefs, what references to other things might mean, etc. Here is a good article on it.

In the context of sociology, it's the use of a theatrical metaphor to look at social situations. The biggest part of it is the idea of an audience that one is "performing" for, and the concept of a front and back stage area. The example I saw is how a waiter will act differently in front of customers (front stage) vs while in the kitchen (back stage). How a person acts will change depending on the audience they are in front of and how they want to be perceived by that audience. Here is an article on it.
